The Spark Behind Thought GPS
In February 2025, UCLA-Anderson MBA Johanna Topalian envisioned a platform where audio tours are dynamic, authentic, and community-driven. Collaborating with Bay Area engineer Michael Lam, who has two decades of experience in geofencing and data pipelines, they developed a hands-free, GPS-triggered audio app that allows anyone to share their stories tied to specific locations.
How Thought GPS Works
- Record & Pin: Use the Thought GPS Creator app to drop a GPS pin and record a 1–3 minute audio snippet—no studio needed.
- Build Routes: Combine clips into multi-stop routes, such as walking tours or local guides.
- Publish & Discover: Go live instantly. Listeners hear your stories as they pass each pin, and you earn through route sales, subscriptions, and tips.
